With its mixture of speed and features, Tweetbot long ago became my go-to Twitter client for both the iPhone and iPad. And today it launches for the Mac as well.
It’s in the pretty early alpha stage, but it works. Users of Tweetbot for iOS will feel right at home. Most importantly for me, it’s retina-ready, meaning I no longer have to look at the abomination that is Twitter for Mac on a Retina MacBook Pro.
I have basically no faith in Twitter updating Twitter for Mac again with the departure of creator Loren Brichter from the company. So Tweetbot is most welcome. Hopefully it’s allowed to stay.

My favorite mobile Twitter client, now on Mac desktop. Probably won’t replace Tweetdeck for me but worth checking out.

If this thing is real, I won’t be able to use my normal Apple restraint and sit behind my Macbook anymore. I’m gonna have to get one of these.
Honestly, I am more interested in the OS that might run on it. Running OS X on this device does not make much sense. More likely than not, they’re going to be as innovative as they were with the iPhone and make an interface that suits the device.
Also, I can deal with a touchscreen on an iPhone but I would prefer some kind of physical pop out keyboard on something like this.
Lastly, the Air really seems to fill this segment already. Its thin enough to be as portable as a netbook, and they’ve already stripped it down about as much as you can. For those reasons, I am pretty skeptical that this will ever exist.
