While you spend your day off in remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King, it might behoove you to look back at this article by Jeff Cohen and Norman Solomon that describes Dr. King’s post-Civil Rights economic activism and opposition to the Vietnam War. It’s striking how much of the article parallels issues in American society today, from America’s place in the world to the growing disparity between the rich and the poor. It shows that King was more of a hard-edged progressive than you may have first realized.
