Rockaway, Queens was one of the hardest hit areas from Hurricane Sandy. Government and private relief organizations have been criticized for their slow response, but grassroots and community-based groups, like the one at Rockaway Beach Surf Club were quick to mobilize and are leading recovery efforts.
From the Staten Island Ferry, take the SI Rapid Transit to the Oakwood station and walk down Guyon Ave to Mill Road.
