Motherfuckers heckle a man in a wheelchair who has Parkinson’s

Having lost two of my grandparents (who both busted their asses their entire lives in both private and public jobs) to Parkinson’s, you have no idea how much this just makes my blood boil. I had a much longer post written out, but Tumblr ate it and I don’t have the emotional energy right now to retype it.

My previous list of pros and cons of healthcare reform has gotten a bit dated. I’ve updated it. Once again, I’ve attempted to keep it as simple and non-partisan as I can manage. Let me know if you think I have misrepresented anything or left out anything crucial.

Pros:

A lot of people who don’t have health insurance will now have health insurance.

95% coverage of legal U.S. residents under 65 will be covered. Compare this with 83% and dropping now. This is an increase of 32,000,000 people. (Those over 65 are already covered by Medicare either way.)

Insurers will not be able to stop paying for people who are sick, even if they lose their jobs.

People who cannot afford health insurance won’t have to pay as much money for it. If you are particularly poor, insurance will be very cheap or even free.

People who are already sick will be eligible for healthcare.

Medicaid availability will expand significantly

Children will be able to stay on their parents’ insurance plan until they are 26.

Insurers must spend at least 80% of premiums on actual medical care.

There will be a federally regulated insurance marketplace that should make health insurance more portable.

The bill will reduce the deficit.

Medicare fraud will be cracked down on.

The prescription drug “donut hole” will be closed. (If you don’t know what that is, you will now never have to worry about it.)

A staffer for Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.) told reporters that Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-M.D.) had been spit on by a protestor. Rep. John Lewis (D-G.A.), a hero of the civil rights movement, was called a ‘ni—er.’ And Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) was called a “faggot,” as protestors shouted at him with deliberately lisp-y screams. Frank, approached in the halls after the president’s speech, shrugged off the incident.

But Clyburn was downright incredulous, saying he had not witnessed such treatment since he was leading civil rights protests in South Carolina in the 1960s.

“It was absolutely shocking to me,” Clyburn told the Huffington Post. “Last Monday, this past Monday, I stayed home to meet on the campus of Claflin University where fifty years ago as of last Monday… I led the first demonstrations in South Carolina, the sit ins… And quite frankly I heard some things today I have not heard since that day. I heard people saying things that I have not heard since March 15, 1960 when I was marching to try and get off the back of the bus.”

“It wasn’t a great rock show. It was completely fascinating and we were all rooting for her to not fuck up and she didn’t, so that was good. But that doesn’t make it a great rock show. It makes it only OK. Her voice went halfway through the show. When she smiles it’s really nice. She cried during one song. She talked about fucking a bunch. There were two or three songs where she kicked ass, and we were so happy. There was also a teleprompter. Mischa Barton was in the balcony, Margaret Cho was onstage, and they both looked super high. Way to go, ladies. We just wanted a rock show. Courtney made references to Bret Michaels and Perez Hilton which were silly and undignified and not necessary. We don’t care about these people. We just want you to rock. We don’t care who you know. We kind of already know who you know. We just want you to rock.”
