The founding fathers had the greatest respect for religious pluralism. John Adams called the prophet of Islam one of the greatest truth seekers in history. Ben Franklin called him a model of compassion. Thomas Jefferson fasted during Ramadan, owned a copy of the Koran, and had the highest respect for Islam. These are the founding fathers, their vision was a genuinely pluralistic society and those Americans who are now attacking Islam as terrorists or the religion of evil should go back to their own founding fathers.
I’m agnostic when it comes to religion. Personally, I would prefer we stopped with the pretense of having to have everyone root for their own creator like they were some kind of football team.
The whole idea of organized religion of any kind, Christian, Muslim, Judaism, Mormon, you name it, seems silly to me, and divides more than it brings together, but as long as you act like adults and not lunatics out to kill each other, go ahead and peace be with you.
It doesn’t matter to me if you believe in Jesus or Mohammed or the Easter Bunny.
Religion to me comes down to this and nothing more: treat other people the way you would want to be treated and be kind to each other.
