Obama’s Spending vs Obama’s Spending Cuts — in Pictures

Where was Heritage.org when every repubican president in the last 20 years outspent every single democratic one?
How about they run the numbers on that one?
Oh they won’t, because hertiage.org is a horseshit right-wing propaganda machine.

As the saying goes, there are lies, damn lies, and statistics. So let’s add a bit of perspective to this.
First, that $100 million does not represent the entirety of Obama’s requested budget cuts. The $100 million is essentially the result of Obama saying, “Guys, can you find some ways to save a bit of money?” It saved about $100 million without cutting any sort of services. While that’s a drop in the bucket, it’s a really big drop in a really big bucket. The actual amount of proposed savings should be $17 billion—or a dot 170 times larger than that current dot when count savings that involve proposed program cuts. Granted, that’s not a lot—but it is certainly significant. This $17 billion does not take into account ending industry-specific tax give aways, which will account for significantly more. While they are savings they are not “budget cuts.”
Secondly, what is in the $3.69 trillion proposed budget? About 20% of it goes to servicing old debt. $2.32 billion of that goes to mandatory programs Obama has no control over. These include social security, medicare, medicaid, and that left over bit of Bush-era corporate entitlement, TARP. Defense accounts for $726 billion. Everything else gets lumped into that “non-defense discretionary” category which is (a mere) $586 billion.
So how does Obama’s insane spending spree compare to Bush’s prudent budgets? On the spending side, it’s pretty similar, with the exception of the stimulus bill. The main reason we have such an incredibly high deficit this year is that we have an incredibly diminished tax revenue. Remember how the economy collapsed? This is why the stimulus bill is necessary. If we can turn around the economic downturn—or at least prevent it from worsening—we can finally have some revenue again.
