Enjoy it America.  This is what you get instead of universal health care.
Really? We don’t get universal health care because we build amphibious assault ships? I don’t think that’s fair. Not at all.

It’s entirely fair.  And it’s not just about money.  It’s also about political will.  Health care would be nifty, but warships are required!  Health care must be deficit neutral but killing machines can cost whatever is “necessary”.  Catching up to the rest of the world’s health care is “risky” but fighting hypocritical never-ending, unwinnable wars that foster anti-American sentiment is never even questioned.
We don’t get universal health care because we’ve been convinced that perpetual war is “American” and taking care of each other is “communist.”  Our priorities are seriously screwed up.  And that’s why we get warships (and prisons and banker bailouts) instead of health care.

In addendum to this, I personally find the concept of making a warship out of the WTC both morbid and disturbing. Not to be totally hippie-dippy or anything.

Why settle for a metaphor for the endless cycle of violence, when you can have a literal representation?

Is the GOP trying to lose an election in 2012? Can you at least try to act like you want to win back the White House?

The best thing that ever happened to the Democratic party was the radicalization of the right. These are your cheerleaders, good luck with that.

Columbia University Study: Blood Pressure of New York Yankees Fans

(@chrisdimare)

The study will monitor blood pressure and heart rate of New York Yankees fans with either known cardiovascular disease, or with cardiac risk factors, by having them wear an Oscar 2 ambulatory blood pressure monitor on playoff game days. Researchers hope the data will indicate whether cheering during the baseball playoffs can have an adverse effect on cardiovascular health and what measures might be taken to alleviate it.

I’d like a study done on the correlation between stomach ulcers and fans of a certain baseball team that calls Queens it’s home.

Gawker’s Pareene, criticizing NJ Gov. Jon Corzine for leaving the US Senate for the NJ Statehouse. | Your Off-Year Election Guide

We get it. It’s cool for New Yorkers to diss NJ. Actually, it’s cool for everyone to diss NJ.

It’s actually incredibly cliché and lazy.

The USS New York heading up the Hudson and past the WTC site.
Powerful image.

From Wikipedia…
Seven and a half tons of the steel used in the ship’s construction came from the rubble of the World Trade Center. The steel was melted down at Amite Foundry and Machine in Amite, Louisiana, to cast the ship’s bow section. It was poured into the molds on 9 September 2003, with seven tons cast to form the ship’s “stem bar” — part of the ship’s bow. The shipyard workers reportedly treated it with “reverence usually accorded to religious relics”, gently touching it as they walked by. Indeed, one worker delayed his retirement after 40 years’ work to be part of the project.

Yakuza godfather buys a new livers for him and his pals

deleteyourself:

Being rich rules…you can just buy new livers for you and your buddies after you drink too much your entire life.

Though the average waiting time for a liver in California is three years, Goto got one in just six weeks, despite the fact that he was reportedly No. 80 on the hospital’s waiting list. Three of his Yakuza associates also got liver transplants, costing them about $400,000 dollars each, all paid for in cash
